The breeding herd consists of all our female elephants and the babies. They are left very much to their own devices, enjoying a free-range controlled environment whilst interacting with visitors on their terms.
Daily Tours leave on the half hour every day from 08h30 to 16h30. After a short video, guests are transported to the elephants where they will have the opportunity to touch, feed and photograph our gentle giants. Elephants love eating, so don’t forget your bucket of elephant feed! There are no barriers or fences to spoil the close encounter. Guests have a 45 – 60 min stay (longer if desired) before they are then transported back to the Unique Elephant Curio Shop and Restaurant.
Elephant Back Rides / Walks offer the once in a lifetime opportunity to ride (or walk with) these incredible creatures. As you traverse through indigenous Cape fynbos atop of the elephants, you will enjoy spectacular views of the Outeniqua mountain range. The experience is rounded off with light snacks and a drink.
Exclusive riding / walking safaris are also available where you can have the elephants all to yourselves. Enjoy a spectacular African sunrise or sunset with our elephants to keep you company. This private safari ensures that you will have the elephants all to yourselves for that extra special occasion. The enriching experience with the elephants ends with a full breakfast or dinner at the restaurant. Booking is essential.
The Sundowner package is for groups of more than ten people wishing to interact with the elephants on a more exclusive basis. Spend an evening enjoying snack platters and sundowners whilst interacting with the elephants. With spectacular views of the Knysna forest and Outeniqua mountain range, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get to know these gentle giants. Our well-trained guides will unfold the story of the African Elephant and their plight across the continent.
The unique Elephant Lodge affords you the experience of sharing the elephants’ accommodation with them. The elephants end their day by heading to their world-class boma for the night where they enjoy some rest and pampering. The Lodge comprises six rooms that have been built within the boma. All rooms have been luxuriously decorated, with a distinct elephant theme running throughout. The unique Elephant Lounge forms the central area overlooking the elephants’ sleeping quarters. Here you are able to relax and watch the elephants enjoying their evening meal. You will be privy to their every sound and movement, and after a night or few in the Elephant Lodge, you’ll also be able to answer the question – do elephants lie down when they are sleeping?
